Latest update: 14th May 2012
Many of the photos on this web site were all taken in a Croydon garden over the past
20 years, mainly of visiting wild mallard
ducks, but also other wildlife such as foxes, birds, frogs, toads and fish.
The garden photos cover the entire four month duck
breeding season, from mating,
egg laying and incubation (five weeks) and then ducklings hatching, growing up
and fledgling
at eight or nine weeks old, with photos often taken daily.
The garden ducks spend most of their year in larger ponds and
lakes around Croydon , so there are photos from various
Croydon and South
London parks, where a
lot of water fowl are found, such as Mallards, Canada Geese, Mute Swans,
Coots,
Moorhens and Tufted Ducks, and their young.

and lakes, mostly with

Ducks and Ducklings in 2009 - Garden
Photos from 2009 of the mallard nest and eight ducklings that hatched on 11th April 2009 and who finally left on
12th June.
Mum started a second nest but disappeared after laying seven
more eggs, almost certainly a victim of one of the foxes.
Ducks and Ducklings in 2008 - Garden
Photos from 2008 of the mallard nest and eight ducklings that hatched on 29th May 2008 and who finally left on 2rd August.
Ducks, Fish and the Pond up to 2007 - Garden
Photos up to 2007 of early duck visits and failed nesting attempts, and of the pond, it's construction and other inhabitants.
Birds, Foxes, Squirrels, Toads and Frogs up to 2009 - Garden
Photos of other various garden wildlife.
Most of the older photos were taken with Canon Powershot cameras, with a
tele-converter lens for better close-ups.
Those from 2011 and later are with
a Samsung camera with x15 zoom which is very useful for wildlife and has much
better
low light capability than the older Canons. All original photos are reduced in
resolution and quality to make web
page download times acceptable.
There are also various CCTV cameras monitoring the garden recording 24/7, from which some photos are taken.
